Freedoom is a project aimed to create free data replacements for the Doom and Doom II IWAD files, as Phase 1 and Phase 2. Combined with the GPLed Doom Source (such as PrBoom or GZDoom), this makes a completely free (as in speech) game. The data is licensed under the Modified BSD License.[1] Episode 4 of Phase 1 is the Cacoward winning Double Impact which was donated by its creators. The project is aiming for a more direct science fiction setting to differentiate it from Doom.

Legal issues[edit]
Freedoom versions older than 0.6.4 contain plagiarized music from mods for Doom and Duke Nukem 3D, these were found and promptly removed with version 0.6.4 released on June 15th, 2009, making versions older than that unavailable on the GitHub repository, although they can still be found in the SourceForge repository. There was also a debate on the legality of a font used on various textures prior to being replaced.
