Dry is a free engine. This means that the source code is available to be studied, modified, and distributed. Most projects look for help with testing, documentation, graphics, etc., as well. |

The Dry engine is free, lightweight, cross-platform and suitable for 2D and 3D games alike. It is implemented in C++ and released under the MIT license. Dry is a fork of Urho3D and uses SDL as its multimedia library. Bullet is included for 3D physics and Box2D for 2D physics.
Naming[edit]
Primarily, the name Dry refers to evolution. Since the Urho3D engine was named after the founder's pet fish - and the "waters" grew increasingly toxic - the name of the fork was chosen to reference its migration to dry land. Of course drying is also a means of preserving fish. In Old English, drȳ means wizard or sorcerer, cognate with druid, which set the magical branding theme of the project. Furthermore, the name has interlingual tangents, as it sounds like German drei (three) and Dutch draai (turn/spin/run).
