The Simple DirectMedia Layer, or SDL, is a multimedia C library often used to write games. It was written by Sam Oscar Lantinga with huge contribution from Ryan C. Gordon[1] and licensed under the ZLIB license[2] (legacy version, SDL 1.2 was licensed under LGPL version 2.1 or newer).
Some higher level libraries depend on it, such as Pygame and Rubygame. The latest stable version is 2.26.0 released on November 22, 2022. The latest legacy version is 1.2.15 released on January 19, 2012.
