Stringrolled is a free game. This means that the source code is available to be studied, modified, and distributed. Most projects look for help with testing, documentation, graphics, etc., as well. |
Stringrolled, or Upsilon Cat, or Upsilon Cat in Stringrolled, is a puzzle platformer. It was created in September 2008 for PyWeek, and won as an individual entry by Joel Bouchard Lamontagne with artwork contributed by other people. It was released into public domain and the source code is available on Pyweek, so this is free software. It is written in the Python programming language and uses the Pygame library.
Gameplay[edit]
The game is reminiscent of NES games, and uses 16 color graphics; music and sound effects add to the atmosphere.
The aim of the game is to help a cat and a princess escape a castle they’ve been thrown into, avoiding various dangers through cooperation and combination of their differing skills.
Setup[edit]
The game in its PyWeek archive has the screen resolution set to 1280x800. It can be changed in the gamelib/graph.py file. The resolution should be a multiple of 320x200; on some CRT monitors 320x200 may be the best one, unless the user sets the refresh rates up properly for ones like 640x400 in his/her X configuration.
