There are various clients that can be used to play Crossfire. The screenshot displays crossfire-client-gtk2.
Development history[edit]
Some of the earliest releases can be dated back to June 20 1993 when it started as a Gauntlet clone.[2] However, evidence of development started as early as 1992. In 1994, Mark Wedel started contributing to the project, who eventually become the current maintainer of the Crossfire project.[3] Historically Crossfire has used the CVS tool for version control. However, the project decided to migrated to Subversion, the successor to CVS, on September 16, 2006 for its features. [4]
On May 11, 2021 the project once again migrated from SVN to Git.[5]
Derivatives[edit]
Over Crossfire's long history, there has been derivatives that branched out from the project. Examples include:
- Deliantra
- Daimonin (code is open-sourced, most of the game content is not)[6]
- Wograld (code and content is open sourced, completely new 45 degree isometric perspective and new game mechanics)[7]
