Surge the Rabbit is a free software platform game inspired by Sonic the Hedgehog. Up until version 0.1.4 from September 19th, 2010, it was known as OpenSonic before being given a distinct identity in order to become free software (which also allowed it to be packaged on Fedora and Debian, whereas it was previously rejected), being called OpenSurge until version 0.5.2.1. They also emphasize that the underlying engine is usable for original games as well, with a custom scripting system known as SurgeScript.
